KENZO releases final limited-edition drop for Spring-Summer 2022 under Artistic Director Nigo

Under the artistic direction of Nigo, Kenzo releases the fourth and !inal drop in a series of limited-edition capsule collections for Spring-Summer 2022. Available in !lagship stores worldwide in May 2022, the drop heralds Nigo’s second runway collection for the Maison to be presented in June 2022. Nigo was appointed Artistic Director of KENZO in September 2021.

The !inal capsule collection for Spring-Summer 2022 revisits and ris on the poppy print key to the archives of Kenzo Takada. A notable motif in the historical fashion conscious of Nigo, the Artistic Director approached the poppy from a contemporary point of view, applying it to two wardrobes of archetypical garments. Designed for women and men, respectively, each is genderless in nature. On cotton poplin Hawaiian shirts and relaxed t-shirts in soft jersey, the poppy appears in single form as a print across the back. An in!inity poppy motif is printed all-over another Hawaiian shirt, with matching cotton drill shorts and a cotton viscose skirt. Finally, sin- gle poppy motifs appear on the pockets of a series of t-shirts, and on the back pocket of cotton twill shorts. Next to poppy red, the capsule collec- tion is retained white, black, navy and pink.

As precursors to a reinvigorated KENZO, the Spring-Summer 2022 cap- sule collections embody the philosophy at the root of Nigo’s practice at the Maison: a real wardrobe for the future, tied to the wisdom of the past. In homage to Kenzo Takada, each drop revolves around the idea of the nat- ural elements key to the legacy of the founder. Expanding on the form and function of these motifs, Nigo draws on the Japanese sensibility of !lora and fauna as signi!iers of symbols and feelings.
