The Spirit of Ecstasy Challenge invites artists from a range of disciplines to create unique works inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy, the sculptural figurine that adorns the bonnet of every Rolls-Royce motor car. The 2022 edition focusses on textile, challenging participants to explore the possibilities of material and push the boundaries of textile design.

Marrakech-based Ghizlane Sahli celebrates femininity, in all its facets. An ode to the rich history of textile in Morocco, Sahli’s work is a collaboration of heritage and reimagination.

From the rugged seaside to the forensic lab, London-based Spirit of Ecstasy Winner Scarlett Yang’s process explores nature, humanity and technological approaches that intercept design. Developing seaweed and algae to form textile products, equilibrium and sustainability are at the heart of her work.
